What is Renewable Energy?

By: Jerry Waxman

With the world slowly moving in the direction of the much-dreaded energy crisis, we must eliminate our dependency on sources of energy that are non-renewable. Non-renewable sources are close to becoming extinct. Renewable energy solutions refer to those energy solutions that can keep churning energy without exhausting the resources. There are three types of renewable energy solutions: solar energy solutions, hydro energy, and wind energy.
Using solar energy: The sun produces the most abundant source of energy available on earth. Make use of this free energy. You can incorporate solar solutions at home. This will not only greatly reduce power bills but will also help the world become more environmentally safe Solar energy have been applied to solar cookers, solar heating systems, solar lighting systems, solar dryers etc.
The sun has always been a perpetual source of heat energy and light energy. With the advancement of technology, heat and light energy from the sun can be changed into other kinds of energy.
There are several advantages to using solar energy systems apart from cost-effectiveness. You will spend very little time and effort maintaining solar systems, as they work very efficiently. Solar systems also give you a quick return on investment. The savings on energy costs adds up in a short period of time. Cooking with solar energy is also said to be extremely healthy. Families are beginning to discover solar energy as a very economic power source for their homes.
Using hydro energy: Using water to produce energy, hydro energy, is another effective renewable solution. Hydro energy is usually converted into electrical energy to run vehicles or various electrical appliances.Hydro energy is typically generated on a large scale. Hydro power accounts for 90 percent of electrical energy from renewable resources, according to recent estimates. The most widespread use of hydro power is dams, which tap water power to produce electricity.
There are some concerns about using hydro energy because of its adverse effects on water-borne flora and fish.
Using wind energy: Windmills are the oldest and most well-known wind energy machines. They go back more than two thousand years. They have been instrumental in towing boats, grinding wheat, and pumping water. Eventually, with post-industrialization, they became a source for generating electricity.
There has never been a time when windmills and wind turbines were unimportant. Tons of megawatts of electricity can be produced from wind energy. When used at individual houses, it can help eliminate the need for using conventional power sources. Wind energy has a very promising future in coming generations, as it is just being re-discovered as an excellent renewable energy source.
