What Do Speed Dating and Jewish Singles have in Common?

By: Billy Baker

Did you know that speed dating was originally thought up by Rabbi Yaacov Deyo of Aish Ha Torah? Rabbi Deyo and his students in Los Angeles modified an older Jewish system of introducing and chaperoning Jewish singles. The term "SpeedDating" is a patented trademark owned by Ha Torah. The inaugural speed dating event took place in a cafe in Hollywood in 1998. Today, speed dating has become a world wide phenomena encompassing all races and religions.

Jewish speed dating was initially created by Rabbi Deyo in an attempt to allow single Jews in a big city to meet other like minded singles. The basic concept was for Jewish singles to be able to meet many other Jews at a particular venue, encouraging possible romance, love, and marriage to blossom amongst otherwise lonely singles.

Speed dating events have now been refined to a fine art. Rabbi Yaacov Deyo's SpeedDating formula is now a 7 by 7 event. Moreover, each person is able to meet seven other sinle people and they too get to meet seven others. 7 minutes is considered enough time to evaluate whether there is any interest on either side.

Everyone receives a small card for evaluating their partner. Those singles that take your fancy get a tick. If you are lucky enough for the interest to be reciprocated, then both parties are notified about taking it further.

Jewish speed dating is a great way to meet singles who are genuinely interested in relationships. Everyone is privvy to what everyone else says, it's meant to be that way. No one is being harassed, and no one has to pay for drinks to get another's attention. Non reciprocation of interest is done tactfully, without any demoralizing face to face rejection.

The most important consideration for any form of speed dating is to remember that punctuality is a must. The whole event will fall down unless everyone turns up at the right time. Wear your best dating outfit, a smile, and think of some relevant questions you may like to ask each of your speed dates.

There are many speed dating sites to select from. Read the fine print before handing over your cash. Select a speed dating event convenient for yourself. If you are feeling anxious about going it alone, have a single friend come along for moral support. You may both find love in 7 minutes. This experience is pleasant and very social while meeting people of similar beliefs for romance. Why waste time?
