Should you Grow your own Vegetables?

By: Samantha Asher

Do you have a green thumb? Do you feel you were born to work in the soil? Whether you love plants or not, there are many great reasons to grow your own vegetables. Unless you hate gardening, it is worth your time to look into starting a vegetable garden in here are some great reasons why.

Home grown vegetables can be grown your way. When you buy produce in the supermarket you never know how fresh they really are or how many pesticides were actually sprayed on them. If you grow them yourself, you can ensure they are purely organic and as fresh as possible. Grow your own vegetables and you will taste the difference.

You can grow a variety of vegetables. The vegetables you can grow are usually narrowed down to the ones that will grow in your region of the world, but even some can be grown indoors if they require something different. For example, if you live in the northeast, you can't grow a banana tree outside, but you can grow a dwarf banana tree inside. When you grow your own vegetables, you can grow whatever you want and however much you want.

Increase your gardening skills with vegetables. If you already like growing flowers, herbs, or other plants, try your hand at vegetables. You may find they are your cup of tea and that you can grow some very delicious vegetables.

Save money, grow your own vegetables. Fresh produce is not cheap. If you grow your own, you only have to pay for the seeds or seedlings, gardening tools (which can be bought once and used again and again), organic fertilizer, water, and some of your time. Growing your own can save you a lot of money depending on how much you grow and how many vegetables you would normally buy at the store.
