Obama: "call me if you need me"

By: Robert Cartagna

Senator John McCain announced that he is suspending his presidential campaign and returning to Washington DC. The Republican candidate also encouraged Senator Obama to postpone the upcoming debate and return to work in an effort to solve the financial crisis. In response to McCain's request Obama issued a statement trying to downplay the importance of him being on the Capitol Hill. “I believe that a president should be able to multi task and therefore if called upon, I could be there at a moment's notice," Obama said in his press conference. What really happened, at the moment's notice, was the Democrats called McCain’s "all hands on board“ approach a calculated political move. “ In her interview with CNN, California Rep. Democrat Barbara Boxer said that a “president should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.” Walk and chew gum at the same time? Let's stop here for a moment. Can you imagine George Bush taking the “walk and chew gum” approach in the post September 11th crisis?... Think about the reaction of the liberals had George Bush failed to show up at the ground zero after the attacks... At this point we can only hope that 09.24 will not reach the magnitude of the 9/11 economic downfall, although some leading economist of the Country fear for much worse. Warren Buffet called the Wall Street financial meltdown a "Pearl Harbor" of the financial industry. And while most Democrats and Republicans agreed with Buffet’s assessment, Obama preferred to take “call me if you need me approach”. His current position resonates with the attitude of post Georgia conflict when the Democratic candidate referred the brutal Russian invasion to the United Nations Security Counsel. I wonder if Obama’s “don’t call me, call them” politics is a glimpse of the kind of presidency we might be facing if he wins this election. In the past few weeks we saw two very different positions when it comes to handling that "3AM call”. While Senator McCain has demonstrated unprecedented leadership, Senator Obama just hid under the table. So, do you think Obama will go to Washington DC tomorrow? Let me make a prediction… Not only that he will go to Washington but he will also try to downplay the importance of them (Obama and McCain) being there. Let's watch.
