The new environments where businesses now find themselves in require the new type of leaders, who will combine the qualities and the skills of scholars, practitioners and leaders. The leaders, who have realized this new challenge of the society, are already on their way of self development and self improvement. They serve as the role model for the new generation of leaders and they are not just a passive pattern of the behavior. They as leaders participate in the education of the new generation of leaders, they foster and support them on their difficult way of dealing with ambiguity and uncertainty of the modern world and help them to do their first steps in reassessing the ever changing reality and never constant science, technology and information. These contemporary agents of change engage themselves in the chain of apprenticeship making sure, that there would be the next generation of scholars, practitioners and leaders to go on. Lifelong learning and the effective performance are the keys to the success in the new business environment. Leaders need the skills to be able to locate, evaluate, and effectively use information any time for any given need and help employees to develop the skills that will make them more competitive in the future and make their work more profitable for the company. Leadership commitment is the key. Both servant and transformational leadership support the lifelong learning and self-development of employees. The transformational model though does this in more effective way, more goals oriented. Strong organization towards the goals achievement is important and the only model providing it is the transactional leadership. But the clear structure of organization is substituted with the mutual trust and community feeling in the servant leadership model and emotional motivation in the transformational model, which at the end might bring the results beyond the expectations. The most important is the ability to deal with change in the contemporary world, which is best represented by the transformational model. In the research literature, the generation of effective leaders in the modern information society is called transformational leaders. Those leaders deal “with the future, with the “what if” scenarios of change, creation, strategy, vision, and transformation (Sarros, 2001, p.390)”. And the analysis provided in this essay does prove as well, that transformational leadership does correspond to most of the assumptions of the SPL Model. Transformational leadership model provides the means to practical implementation of SPL model. It is our decision to choose the theoretical knowledge only, or to apply the scholarship in practice.
