Introduction of UID label Before you apply for Item Unique Identification (UID) Registry, appropriate UID labels are essential for your items, especially if you want UID compliance for your products. UID labels are also used for all serialization tracking programs (SNTs) and Department of Defense’s (DOD) identification requirements. Choosing the right UID label, therefore, is essential to achieve UID compliance. The UID Labels, UID tags and UID nameplates you use should have longevity even under difficult conditions and should not wear away. You can choose from a wide array of materials like aluminum, stainless steel, polyester or laser marked adhesive backed tape but the UID labels or plates need to fulfill MIL STD 130 standards. Normally, companies requiring UID labels, UID nameplates and Mil-Std 130M UID compliance can be classified into three broad categories such as: · Selective Resource Medium-to-Large Size Companies These companies have adequate resource to implement the necessary equipment and processes for complete Mil-Std 130 UID compliance. However, they choose to partner with a vendor that can offer UID labels and UID nameplates including on-demand and verification reports in a timely fashion. · Full Resource Medium-to-Large Size Companies These companies normally have all the available resource to fully implement Mil-Std 130M compliant label and tag, UID verification and Wide Area Work Flow (WAWF) and UID registering processes. However, they seek a UID partner that can help them in correctly choosing the appropriate UID equipment or process for their operation. · Limited Resource Small-to-Medium Size Companies Companies under this have a Mil-Std 130 requirement but cannot afford to purchase CO2 laser etching equipment or thermal transfer printers, UID label verification equipment and qualified staff to satisfy UID orders. Therefore, they generally seek a reliable UID partner which can offer UID compliance labels, UID nameplates, verification reports and also a process to submit UID information to the WAWF and UID Registry.
