How To Get The Perfect All Weather Wicker

By: Kenny F Leichester

A home is for life. You would want to make your house the place where you would love to be in, to rest, or wake up in the morning to. Mismatch furniture can be a big turn off. It will not help create that home sweet home atmosphere in your own house. Therefore, you should go for something that will turn on your mood. Wicker is one of the best choice.
Ideally, wicker furniture was never meant to endure the harsh outdoor weather. Classic wicker furniture are made of fibers which become brittle and dry after long hours under the sun. Water and moisture eventually loosen the weaving which leaves most owners with no other choice but to keep the furniture solely for indoor use. Fortunately, new technologies have made wicker outdoor furniture a possibility.
People sometimes think of wicker as a type of material. They are in fact a way of weaving materials such as Rattan, Bamboo, Reed, Cane, and Paper Fiber. These expensive materials themselves are not weather proof. In this modern age, we are introduced to materials such as Resin and Viro Fiber. They, on the other hand will not fall under the mercy of harsh weather elements.
- Resin or polypropylene resin is a new synthetic property and was made to withstand heat, fading, cracking, and discoloring. It neither rots nor rusts which means that you never have to repaint it; unless your objective is simply to change your furniture’s design. Using Resin will ensure that your furniture is durable and moist resistant.
- Viro Fiber is a high quality synthetic fiber which is polyethylene-based making your furniture very strong and flexible. It can withstand tremendous temperature and weather changes. This material is resistant to UV light, salt water, and chlorine making it one of the easiest to maintain materials out in the market.
Homeowners’ number one fear is getting the furniture dirty or smudged. This is especially true for white or lighter color furniture. Resin and Viro fiber will not make you worry any longer. They are easy to clean materials that are resistant to smudges and discoloration. With a little soap and water, you can have your wicker outdoor furniture looking new everytime despite the weather it is under.
Just because the furniture is marketed as all weather wicker doesn’t imply that it is of the best quality. Some things to keep in mind before making a purchase are:
- Low-priced all weather wicker furniture may not be one hundred percent made out of all weather material. Check to see whether or not the frame is made of lower quality materials such as Rattan or Bamboo. If this is the case, you may want to think twice about buying the furniture as Rattan, Bamboo, and other similar materials are susceptible to rotting and decay.
- There should not be loose weavings as this will make way for loose ends. Premature damages tend to start this way.
- Try to avoid expensive white wicker furniture if you have children or pets. Although they are tough, constant abuse will leave marks here and there. Permanent markers are difficult to wash off even on Viro Fiber and Resin.
- The leg of your furniture should come with casters. This is to protect your floorings if you have expensive ones fixed in your home. If they don’t come with casters, you should be able to fix them onyourself.
Your house can use a great looking patio furniture like wicker. You should keep them in moderate amount as too many will make a mess out of your home. Pair your wicker with pillows, cushions and rugs so they will look and feel more comfortable. You should have contrasting colors as this works best with soft furniture like wicker. You can save on budget at the same time not sacrifice style and quality with wicker.
