How To Deal With Insecurities During College

By: Alex Gwen Thomson

High school is tough but college is different. It is three or even five times tougher than what you experienced during high school. Some even said that college is a dog eat cat world where you really have to struggle a lot if you want the campus to know that you existed. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done. More often than not, the insecurities that you had when you where in high school usually continue until you reach college. But this does not mean that you can no longer change whatever it is that you experienced during high school. There are a lot of ways on how you could deal with your insecurities during this phase. Facing your insecurities and inhibitions during college is a must so you could prepare for a very competitive world once you are already done with your school.

Just Be Yourself

You probably heard this a thousand times before. But this is still the best thing that you could do in order to conquer your insecurities. By surviving college without pretensions, you will get to enjoy the things that matter most to you. Aside from that, you will also get to love your college life as well because you had fun doing the activities that you like most.

Always look at your best

Think of this is your preparation for your future. When you hunt for a job, you need to look presentable. Start practicing now by wearing clean and well-ironed clothes. Aside from making you look very presentable, you would also be more comfortable facing the day if you are wearing clothes that would make you look respectable at the same time.

Stop looking down

When you walk or even if when you are just sitting in your classroom, stop looking down and feeling so conscious about yourself and how you look. People would respect you if they see that you are confident. You will also have more self-esteem if you show people that you are confident when you walk, when you talk to them, or even if you do nothing at all!

Join clubs or organizations that interests you

One of the best ways to overcome insecurities is to get used to face a lot of people on a daily basis. Even if you don’t get to meet and mingle with the cheerleaders and the most popular groups in your school, you could still conquer your insecurities and inhibitions while at college.

Look for something that they don’t have

Stop contemplating on the things or features that you don’t have. That’s how insecurities start. Just always keep in mind that everyone has their own flaws including the most famous person in your school. Try to look for the things that you have but the person you envy does not have. Or if you can’t find anything great about yourself, ask your closest friend to do it for you. Do the same to him as well so that you can boost each other’s self esteem.
