I'm trying to find more information on butterfly kits and how they are used. I think that the majority of children would be interested in 'growing their own butterflies' and I believe that many adults would probably be interested as well. --At this point I am just openly raising my hand skyward--. Schoolchildren or amateurs around the house can effortlessly begin to breed and keep butterflies as pets using butterfly kits. Several butterflies may be kept alive in a little enclosure, and it isn't necessary for you to be a biologist. No special equipment is required. It is so easy - just supply sugar. We will explore all of the different parts that make up the butterfly kit. There are a number of suppliers out there who provide butterfly kits, but in general, they are almost identical in what they provide: Caterpillars, Feeder, Instructions, Pot of food, Housing of some sort For different manufacturers, the housing slightly varies. The card can either be made of clear plastic or a type of mesh fabric. Actual construction of the kit is unimportant. Every one gives people a way to safely handle the young butterflies and clearly see the transformation take place. There will be a wide variety of feeder features when you compare different company designs. It may be a dropper or pipette, or it could be something like a cotton bud to hang on to the liquid. Once again, it doesn't really matter what's provided, since what is provided will be sufficient. Generally, the kit does not include the caterpillars. You will most likely recieve a certificate so you can claim your caterpilliars. We have varying reasons for this, the main reason being that you are ready to receive and care for the caterpillars. It's a bad thing if the caterpillars are sent to you and you are gone for a couple weeks! Thus you may make arrangements in advance and be certain to have sufficient time prior to placing your order. A lot of suppliers allow you to choose the dates in which the caterpillars are to be sent. The point being, all you need offer the caterpillars is a dish of food. In fact, something else might be dangerous and may hurt your livestock, so be careful. To ensure that you'll know what needs to be done at what time, each kit comes with complete instructions. When you purchase a butterfly kit you will recieve the following. With the kit, you will observe the butterfly's development from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly in just three to five weeks time. Children love taking this fascinating trip of a lifetime. (Are Butterfly Kits a good idea? Most kids and adults say, yes! It's fun, educational,and not a great deal of work or complicated steps) will love them and remember for years to come. The butterflies supplied have a breeding season that runs from March through September, so you may repeat the process as many times as you want during that time frame. The type of butterfly which you will typically find supplied is of the Painted Lady variety. Additionally, you will not have to purchase new butterfly kits every time. You can repeat this more cheaply by keeping the housing and buying new caterpillars. It is important, however, that you rememeber to release the butterflies back to their natural environment after having watched them for a few days. If you have the right plants, butterflies will often stay there for a while. There isn't any environemental concern with letting the butterflies free as they are quite common to the area and won't effect it's ecology. There is still no cause for alarm even if you don't have a garden or reside in a developed location. In their quest to find food, this type of butterfly may fly hundreds of miles. And there it is, a butterfly kit and what you use them for. I'm sure you will get as much enjoyment from it as I did.
